Napa
Nickel & Nickel
Nickel & Nickel is all about letting Napa Valley’s individual vineyard sites speak for themselves, one beautifully focused Cabernet Sauvignon at a time.
Overview
Just north of Oakville, Nickel & Nickel sits among some of the most famous Cabernet ground in Napa Valley, yet the experience feels refreshingly down-to-earth. We love how clear their mission is. One vineyard, one wine, no blending to smooth out the edges. Visiting feels like a guided walk through Napa’s neighborhoods, glass by glass, with each stop teaching you something new without ever feeling like a lesson.
History
Nickel & Nickel was founded in 1997 by the Far Niente family, who already had deep roots in Napa Valley and a long track record of elegant winemaking. They noticed something important while working with Cabernet vineyards across the valley. Even sites just miles apart produced wines with completely different personalities. Instead of blending those differences away, they decided to celebrate them. That idea became Nickel & Nickel’s soul and it still drives everything they do today.
Sustainability
Nickel & Nickel farms its estate vineyards organically and takes a thoughtful approach to land stewardship. Sustainability here feels practical and lived-in rather than showy. Healthy soils, responsible water use, and long-term vineyard care all support their belief that great wine starts with respecting the land year after year.
Atmosphere
The winery itself feels classic Napa. Think restored farm buildings, manicured gardens, and a peaceful sense of space that encourages you to slow down. Tastings usually happen seated, with plenty of breathing room between groups. It’s polished but not stiff, the kind of place where you can relax into the experience and actually focus on what’s in your glass.
Experience
Guests consistently walk away feeling more confident about Cabernet and Napa Valley in general. Tastings are unhurried and thoughtfully guided, with clear explanations in plain language. You’ll taste several single-vineyard Cabernets side by side, which is where the magic happens. People love that there’s no pressure and no upsell energy. Just genuine enthusiasm for helping you understand why each wine tastes the way it does. This is a great stop if you enjoy learning but don’t want to feel talked down to.
